Half Court Heave

OK, I am exagerating…but thats not what ESPN wants you to believe.  In all actuality, they are only 3.5 games up.  Now this would be a big deal if was the first week of September, however, its only July 2nd (or 3rd depending on when you are reading this).  Remember the Mets of last year?  They lost a 7 game lead that they held on September 12th.

Now don’t get me wrong, I would love see the Rays knock off the Yankees or the Red Sox (and hear their idiot fans cry for a whole offseason), but there are a ton of reasons that the Rays won’t do it.  Here are a few:

• They are young (their best player is a rookie)
• They are inexperienced (this is the longest they have ever been in a race)
• Their bandwagon fans.

Now that last one isn’t really a reason, but it does bother me, so I decided to throw it in there.  Where were these fans when they were named the Devil Rays, losing over 100 games a year?  Now Dicky V may be crazy, but you can’t call him a frontrunner.
